The Amazing Way To Really Cope With Your Panic Attacks

September 30, 2009 · Filed Under Health and Fitness · Comment

Panic attacks are identified by the sudden onset of brief periods of distress and fear. Visible symptoms of panic attacks include shortness of breath, trembling, palpitations, nausea, sweating, dizziness, tingling, hyperventilation, smothering, and choking. Frequently occurring panic attacks for no conceivable reason are indications of panic disorder though it must be noted that there are several types of anxiety disorders that might also lead to frequent panic attacks. A common example is people who have a difficulty of phobias. Their fear-triggers can easily lead to panic attacks. Many people who have panic attacks also report that during the attack they feel like they are dying or losing control of their senses (especially emotions and rational thought). The primary reaction to panic attacks is a deep and uncontrollable desire to remove oneself from the place and situation where the attack began. The feeling of helplessness at the hands of fate and a sense of impending doom and fear of death are heightened by the shortness of breath (translated as inability to breathe) and tunnel vision. Panic attacks are not rare and most people are going to experience them occasionally, especially during periods of high anxiety. Quite often, panic attacks will be inexplicable to the person suffering them and this often leads people into concluding that something is wrong with them though in actual case, people simply fail to connect their everyday lives to potentials of panic attacks. Different people suffer diverse range of panic attacks, from a few minutes to a few hours, and the frequency and tendency of panic attacks also varies accordingly. The experts who study panic attacks are of the opinion that the attacks are a result of excessive adrenaline in the blood that leads to palpitations. Adrenaline stimulates our senses and under emergencies, it enables our body to function at higher-than-normal efficiency. On the other hand, under normal circumstances all that extra blood and adrenaline lead to adverse side effects that are known as panic attacks. When the human body faces an emergency, it takes the body about 3 minutes to respond, until then everything is, as they say, in your head. During these 3 minutes, the adrenal glands produce enough adrenaline to get us going but then they have to stop or the person goes into adrenaline shock. Panic attacks result when our bodies receive false signals that trigger the adrenal glands. There is no physical emergency (most causes are psychological, like fear) and yet our bodies try to respond as if there were. The key to avoiding panic attacks is relaxation, especially when you are feeling anxious or you are afraid of some event that is about to happen. That thrill you feel in a horror movie, always waiting for something to pop out and scare you, is the adrenaline at work. In real life, when you think yourself getting close to the edge, just relax and try to calm your mind and body. Panic attacks are very common to everyone. If you are looking for ways on how to treat panic attacks you have come to the right place. Finding out the ways on how to treat panic attacks is not actually difficult. You just have to find ways to look for tips on how to treat panic attacks.

All those calories are going to turn into fat if you do not exercise, because we do not burn very many calories if we stay still. The equation is very simple. A Health Teacher in the Largest Parochial High School in the Local Community Teaches Her Students About the Significance of Alcohol Addiction Signs

September 30, 2009 · Filed Under Health and Fitness · Comment

Miss Benning was a health teacher at the most financially challenged co-ed high school in the state. Even though she had been teaching for only two or three years, she had already gained a reputation as a teacher with instructional techniques that inspired and stimulated the pupils in her class to learn and to think.

For example, one Friday morning at 10:00 she addressed the pupils in her class and stated the following: “For the next few days we are going to learn about some basic alcoholism facts from a more wide-ranging standpoint and we are also going to learn about several of the best known signs of alcoholism from a less general and more explicit viewpoint.”

“Not all of these alcoholism signs will beyond doubt demonstrate that someone with a drinking problem is an alcoholic, but the more signs that a drinker displays, the stronger the probability that he or she is a person who is alcohol dependent.”

Miss Benning then told the class that each person would be accountable for studying two alcohol addiction signs and then presenting his or her results to the class via a thirty minute oral presentation.

The Students are Energized About Giving An In-Depth Presentation to Their Fellow Classmates About Alcohol Dependency Signs

After learning about the different signs of alcohol dependency for a number of days, the time had come for the oral presentations. It was immediately clear to see that her pupils were thrilled about the topic because the information that they presented was first class. To say that Miss Benning was pleasantly surprised with the eagerness displayed by the pupils in her classroom regarding this subject could not be overstated.

The day after all of the pupils completed their presentations, Miss Benning passed out a sheet of paper with a list of all the alcohol dependency signs that were presented and discussed in the presentations and in class. Miss Benning then asked her pupils to study the list and rank the top ten alcoholism signs that were most indicative of alcoholism. After approximately twenty minutes, Miss Benning collected the sheets of paper and told her pupils that after she goes over the results, she will discuss her findings the next school day.

There was a real buzz by the students while they were exiting Miss Benning’s classroom. One could swear that her students couldn’t wait for the next day to come so that they could learn about the results of their in-class research.

The Students Match Their Results Against the Assessments From A Council of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Authorities

When the next school day finally arrived, Miss Benning gave out a sheet of paper that listed the top three alcoholism signs according to the pupils’ rankings. Next to these results, she included another column that was labeled “experts’ response.” She then told the students in her classroom that the numbers in the additional column she added signified the conclusions that were stated by a group of chemical dependency specialists.

Miss Benning told the students in her class to look over the information on the piece of paper she handed out and then to raise their hand if they had any issues, questions, or concerns. Within a minute or two, just about everyone in the classroom raised his or her hand. It was noticeable that the pupils had some issues, concerns, or questions about their results versus the answers given by the authorities. As an illustration, almost every person in the class disagreed with the highest ranked answer given by the specialists, namely, “Do you feel very sick when you quit drinking?”

The Essential Difference Between Alcohol Addiction and Alcohol Abuse is the Physical Dependency That is Experienced With Alcohol Addiction and Not With Alcohol Abuse

Miss Benning then explained to the pupils in her class why this answer was the most unambiguous sign of alcoholism. She underscored the fact that the basic difference between alcoholism and alcohol abuse is the physical addiction that is experienced with alcoholism and not with alcohol abuse.

In effect this means that when an individual who is alcohol dependent all of a sudden quits drinking, he or she will experience alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

Miss Benning then told the pupils in her classroom that alcohol withdrawal symptoms are responses by the brain and by the body to the deficiency of alcohol to which they had become accustomed. Stated differently, alcohol withdrawal symptoms are signals from the brain and from the body telling a person who is addicted to alcohol that something is exceedingly wrong and needs to be rectified. These messages consist of a number of dangerous, painful, and uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms that can possibly lead to a fatality if the appropriate treatment is not promptly received.

Miss Benning then listed the host of alcohol withdrawal symptoms that can be experienced when an individual who is addicted to alcohol suddenly quits drinking.

The fact that Miss Benning tried to emphasize was this: a person who engages in alcohol abuse can experience almost any and every one of the alcohol dependency signs that the students had ranked, but the one symptom or sign that few, if any, alcohol abusers ever experience is alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

To articulate this as precisely as possible, Miss Benning underscored the fact that alcohol abusers, unlike alcoholics, are not alcohol dependent and accordingly, when they quit drinking, they almost never suffer from alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

The Students Feel They Have Discovered An Abnormality With the Findings From The Council of Alcohol Dependency Authorities

The students also some difficulty with the second ranked answer given by the alcohol dependency authorities, namely, “Have you ever had a drink the first thing in the morning to steady your nerves or to get rid of a hangover?”

Miss Benning informed the pupils in her classroom that this sign does not inevitably denote that the problem is alcohol addiction, but that it does point to the need that individuals who are addicted to alcohol have to drink in order to steer clear of alcohol withdrawals.

After Miss Benning explained the importance of alcohol withdrawal symptoms in the life of the person who is alcohol dependent, the students started to understand the key difference between alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction.

To add a sense of closure to the topic, Miss Benning asked the students in her class to take out a piece of paper and answer the following question: “if every person who is addicted to alcohol knew about every one of the alcohol dependency signs and alcohol withdrawal symptoms we have studied, what percentage of them do you think would ask for alcohol addiction treatment?”

After approximately three or four minutes, Miss Benning asked for the pupils’ responses. While many pupils figured that roughly 70 to 80 percent of people who are alcohol dependent would seek alcohol dependency rehabilitation if they knew about the facts related to alcohol withdrawal symptoms and alcohol addiction signs, most of the students figured that this number would not be less than 55 percent.

The Pupils Were Astonished to Find Out That Only 25% of Alcohol Dependent People in the United States Obtain Alcohol Dependency Treatment

To the amazement of most of the pupils, Miss Benning acknowledged that according to various scientific examinations, only 25% of the individuals who are addicted to alcohol in the United States get alcohol addiction treatment. This surprised most of the pupils because they figured that first-hand knowledge of the gruesome facts and statistics linked to alcohol addiction would motivate the majority of the individuals who are addicted to alcohol to obtain alcohol addiction rehab.

Miss Benning then stated that individuals who are addicted to alcohol not only need alcohol on a daily basis in order to function but they also need alcohol on an everyday basis so they can avoid possible alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Clearly, the alcohol dependent individual’s need to drink on a daily basis is stronger than facts or logic. As a matter of fact, because the need for alcohol is “reality” to the individual who is alcohol dependent, this is very hard to counteract.

A few minutes later the bell rang, meaning that the end of class had arrived. Based on the excitement manifested by the students when they were leaving the room, Miss Benning realized that she had inspired and encouraged her pupils to stop and think about a critical health and social problem that exists in our culture.

Anger Management Problems Caused By Drinking Alcohol

September 30, 2009 · Filed Under Health and Fitness · Comment

Many people have anger management problems when they drink alcohol. Would you say that you are one of these people or do you know a person who struggles to control their anger when they are drunk? If you have answered this question in the positive then this article may well be of benefit to you.

I am not personally involved with anger management as a career, I actually offer people help to gain lower business overheads.

Only this morning did I read about how when under the influence of alcohol two men killed another man. They had become involved with an altercation with another man and one of the men then decided to punch him. He fell to the ground and then the second man for some unknown reason kicked him in the head. It is thought that it was his head hitting the pavement that caused him to die however the two men were still sent to jail.

Now in this case three mens lives have been ruined as a direct result of alcohol and the way in which it caused two seemingly educated and normally law obiding citizens to “lash out”. Would they have acted in such a way had they been sober? I doubt it.

Both men have stated how sorry they are and about how guilty they feel; I for one feel sorry for them both as they will have to live with what they have done for the rest of their lives plus they will spend a number of their best years behind bars. Then there is the families of these two men - they too will have been badly affected by the whole ordeal.

There is also the person who has tragically died, such a waste of a precious life. I also of course feel very sorry for this person, his family and friends. It really is a tragedy.

I for one have stopped drinking alcohol; a drink that at one staged helped me to speak fluently. I had a stutter for eighteen years of my life and alcohol enabled me to gain the confidence to talk without the fear of stuttering.

I have now managed to overcome the stutter and with the help of a DVD authoring company have produced a seventy minute DVD which describes my journey to fluency along with the techniques required to stop stuttering.

If you are a person who is unable to control their anger when drunk then please learn the lessons from above before your also ruin peoples lives.

September 30, 2009 · Filed Under Health and Fitness · Comment

There are so many different signs and symptoms that are associated with the IBS condition, that it can definitely be hard to know when it is an IBS syndrome symptom and when it is the symptom of another condition. This is very important, because you will never be able to find a solution or treatment for anything unless you know what the problem is first.

This is why you need to know how to recognize an IBS syndrome symptom, so you can dissociate it from other healthy conditions and know that you can get in to your doctor and tell them that you think you may have come down with the IBS syndrome.

So how can you tell whether it is an IBS syndrome symptom or not? Well there are a few ways to tell, but more than anything you need to look at other symptoms that you are exhibiting as well, and by putting these together you should be able to determine whether it is IBS or another health condition that you are dealing with.

For instance you may have abdominal pain, and have an inkling that it is the IBS syndromeyou are dealing with, but if you also noticed that you have a rash at the same time that the abdominal pain started, chances are that it is not IBS you are dealing with because a rash is not one of the commonly known symptoms.

Talk to Your Doctor About IBS Syndrome

No matter what your presumptions, you need to make sure that you get in to see your doctor if you ever think that you may have IBS and that you are going to need to come up with a diet for IBS syndrome.

They are going to talk to you about this and then go ahead and perform a few general tests so that they can make an accurate diagnosis on whether or not it is actually IBS that you are dealing with here. An appropriate treatment for a person can be found out after detecting his problem.

Fortunately for IBS sufferers, as soon as you have a diagnosis, you know what your treatment options are, and there are quite a few to choose from. One can select the treatment for IBS according to the time and pain he is dealing with due to IBS syndrome.

Headache Medicine – A Basic Knowledge

September 28, 2009 · Filed Under Health and Fitness · Comment

Headache medicine can be an effective solution for the chronic pain sometimes associated with stress and tension headaches.  These headaches can become a frequent problem for some patients, striking daily and detracting from quality of life.  In some cases, headaches become a very real impediment to daily functioning.  It is important to treat these headaches promptly, in order to bring quality of life back up to normal levels.

Over the counter medications such as ibuprofen, aleve, and acetaminaphen can all be effective treatments for headache.  In some situations, more powerful headache medicine may be required in order to resolve the problem.  Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can typically help in a significant fashion to reduce headache pain, but sometimes more powerful medicines may be required.  Triptans are a family of medications prescribed for serious pain, and are usually prescribed to sufferers of migraine headaches.  Hormonal headaches can potentially be a cause of severe headache pain.  This kind of headache can be attributed to fluctuating hormone levels.  Ibuprofen and Aleve are oftentimes effective in these cases.

Sinus problems can also be a significant source of headache pain.  Under these circumstances, sinus pressure that builds up behind the nasal cavity causes an uncomfortable sensation.  In severe cases, the excess mucus that has built up behind the nasal cavity can become infected.  When this happens, the pain can be quite severe.  A dull ache behind the eyes or nose is a good sign of such an infection, as is any swelling or blood discharge from the nose.  Decongestants, nasal sprays, and antibiotics are all good treatments for sinus infections, and may be necessary headache medicines.

In addition to headache medicine, prevention is an important part of treating frequent headaches.  Primary headaches are the most common kind of headache, and occur due to added tension or stress, either physical or emotional.  Stress management can be an effective way to treat headaches, thereby preventing them from occuring.  Stress and tension headaches commonly begin as a feeling of tightness behind the eyes.  This can be a good sign that headache medicine should be taken promptly to avoid further pain.  Regular anti-inflammatories can be an effective headache medicine for the common primary headache.  Further treatment can include biofeedback, or massage therapy.
