Why Am I Always Tired? Here Are 10 Common Causes You Should Investigate

Are you asking yourself why am I always tired? Being tired is a symptom of many different health conditions and lifestyle situations. If you are always tired and want to recover, you should investigate what exactly you are suffering from. The possible causes are plenty, so to help you I have made a list of the most common causes of tiredness.

INSOMNIA: To have insomnia you do not necessarily need to be totally sleepless. Insomnia is a condition where you are not getting enough sleep, or where the quality of the sleep you are getting is not high quality. Do you have problems falling asleep at night, or are you waking up many times during the night?

SLEEP APNEA: This is a sleep disorder where people stop breathing for a few seconds many times throughout the night, and it is more common than most people think. When this occurs, critical stages of sleep are interrupted and the quality of sleep is low.

IRON DEFICIENCY ANEMIA: You are extremely dependent on iron (hemoglobin) in your blood to transport oxygen to your cells. With iron deficiency anemia, your iron levels are so low that your body’s cells are not getting enough oxygen, causing you to feel tired all the time.

HYPERTHYROIDISM: Your thyroid glad uses thyroid hormones to regulate the metabolism of your cells and how fast your body burns energy. If your levels of thyroid hormones are too high, your body will burn energy faster then you can supply energy through the food you eat. This will leave you always feeling tired.

UNDER-ACTIVE THYROID GLAND: Too little thyroid hormones also causes tiredness. Even though you may get enough energy into your body through the food you eat, low level of thyroid hormones causes your cells not to use the fuel that is available.

FOOD ALLERGY AND INTOLERANCE: If you are allergic to certain foods, or intolerant, eating these foods is activating defense mechanisms in you body that drain a lot of energy and may leave you feeling tired all the time. Ask your doctor to test for common allergies or experiment with your diet leaving out one food group at the time and see if your energy level improves.

PARASITES: If you have parasites in your intestines, those parasites will steal much of the nutrition from the food you eat. It will make you feel hungry and tired all the time. The parasites will also release toxic waste into your body with similar effect.

ANXIETY AND STRESS: Stress and anxiety is a fear-reaction in your mind. This fear causes the fight or flight response of your body to be activated, even if you not facing any physical danger. It this state, your body spends much more energy than normal. And prolonged periods of stress and anxiety may cause you to feel depleted and exhausted.

MELANCHOLY AND DEPRESSION: Your mental state has a huge influence on your body’s energy levels. Have you experienced that when your are feeling happy and joyful you are also feeling extra energetic. The same holds true also for feeling sad or depressed, but then your energy levels will be very low.
