Acne is a frequent problem that people suffer from at any point in their lives. There is a long list of acne types that vary based on its classification and severity. Acne nodules are classified as a more severe and painful form of acne also known as cysts. These often leave permanent scars on the skin which cannot be removed without surgery. These appear as deep lesions which are not easily treatable. The best form of treatment is antibiotics and surgery. Such strong medication requires consultation with a doctor and prescription.

One medication that is often prescribed for harsh acne is accutane or isotentin.  This is a very strong medication that is only prescribed when all other form of treatments deem ineffective. The benefit of taking accutane is that the medication removes the acne is a few months and almost permanently. However it carried several serious side effects. These include depression where one might want to harm his or herself.  The medication also affects the digestive and the nervous system.

Another common topical treatment prescribed are retinoids. These are generally available in the market in cream or gel that can be applied directed on the skin. The retinoids hold certain properties that increase the cell turnover rate removing excessive skin and reducing the amount of clogged skin pores. The medication also helps reduce acne scarring as layers of skin start to shed. Some side effects of retinoids include burning, soreness and redness which begin in the initial stages however the effects reduce as the medication is continued over time.

In case such treatment proves o be ineffective it is recommended that one consults a doctor who can then prescribe the right type of treatment for the condition.
